DSTV PREMIERSHIP MATCH PREVIEW: SUPERSPORT UNITED VS MAMELODI SUNDOWNS

The Tshwane derby that took place two weeks ago was predicted by many as a win for Mamelodi Sundowns but SuperSport United stole a point towards the end of the match that ended 2-2.

What will transpire in a repeat of a clash that saw Downs conceding for the first time after first 10 games of the season?

SuperSport have only won twice in their last seven league games and have been fluctuating since the season began.

Their build-up play is pretty but they look harmless in the final third. At times they score goals but usually via the individual brilliance of certain players.

Matsatsansa have been missing the impact of their injured center midfielder Sipho Mbule who can be equally effective both in defense and attack.

His replacement Jamie Webber isn’t bad but sometimes seems overwhelmed by the position.

Their defensive midfielder Jesse Donn does well in collecting the ball from the back but needs a playmaker. Therefore, the ball takes time to reach their forwards Ghampani Lungu and Thamsanqa Gabuza.

Meanwhile, the league’s best team Sundowns have been in consistent form for a while. The last time they lost a league match was against Kaizer Chiefs in their previous last campaign.

They have one weak link in defense in Kuliso Mudau, a right back. He can be too aggressive when marking in dangerous areas, creating unnecessary fouls. He’s also not effective offensively as the benched Thapelo Morena can be in the same position.

Bafana bastyle have a solid midfield with box-to-box Andile Jali linking the team from the back to forwards. Defensive midfielder, Rivaldo Coetzee, who recently returned from injury also maintains the build-up well.

Their frontman Peter Shalulile who’s the league top goalscorer enjoys tapping the net. The maven playmaker Themba Zwane partners well with attacking midfielder Haashim Domingo who’s in fine form.

Sundowns have proven several times to be the strongest team in the league while SuperSport are on and off. I’d put my money on the Brazilians to take the victory.
