Pitso Mosimane’s Al Ahly have six games in hand as they chase Egyptian log leaders Zamalek who are favourites for the title. Should they win them all, they can surpass their big rivals. However, games in hand do not mean points in hand.
Zamalek have 61 points after 27 games, while Ahly are in 2nd position with 45 points after 21 games. These two teams have already played against each other in both rounds of the season with the defending champions triumphing once and the other ending in a stalemate.
If Pitso doesn’t win all those games, then he must hope that Zamalek drop points in their last seven league games and exploit that opportunity.
The Kagiso-born manager still has to encounter teams that are combating in the relegation zone including El-Ntag El-Harby, Wadi Degla, Aswan SC, and National Bank Egypt and they’re likely to cause hiccups as they also seek a way to climb up the log.
The Egyptian Premier League holders were held up by other competitions they played including the Caf Champions league, Fifa Club World Cup, and Egypt Cup, thus their league games were rescheduled.
Moreover, the Club Of The Century are preparing to battle for the Caf Champions League title in the final against Kaizer Chiefs on the 17th of July 2021. Perhaps Jingles is focusing more on that, and that might interrupt the league focus.
Pitso has won four trophies since taking the reigns as the Egyptian giants head coach last year.
