The last time Kaizer Chiefs beat SuperSport United was in 2018 and they’d like to have a taste of victory when they meet them this Saturday. Since then, these teams have played four games and Matsatsansa have won two, with two draws. Will Glamour Boys be able to get the better of United this time?
Kaizer Chiefs is one of the struggling teams in the League this season and the way they play shows no confidence at all. Earlier this season, there was a time where they won three league games consecutively (against AmaZulu FC, Cape Town City and Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila) and it revived hope that they were rising. However they’re on the slide again.
Gavin Hunt’s men have been relying on the young Nkosingiphile Ngcobo in most of the games this season. He’s a ballplayer who’s very influential in creating goalscoring chances. Yes, he has immense potential to be a star player for them but he cannot carry the team on his shoulders. Mshini is under pressure because he’s one player that’s doing well but senior players who should be guiding him aren’t doing well.
Coming into this game, SuperSport is a better side in terms of form and performance. A player to look out for is in-form midfielder Sipho Mbule who plays box-to-box as you can find him helping his defense and also when they attack he’s always there. Mbule plays alongside Tebogo Mokoena who’s supporting him well in marking and winning the balls in the middle of the park.
These two teams play a similar type of football as they often use aerial balls to reach their forwards. Chiefs’ defender Reeve Frosler is the one who passes long balls mostly to the likes of Samir Nurkovic and Leonardo Castro. While with Matsatsansa, it’s their goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and defender Luke Fleurs that hit the long balls for United’s front men Thamsanqa Gabuza and Bradley Grobler. Don’t expect too much passing football in this game.
Kaizer Chiefs lost to AmaZulu in midweek and will be surely looking to make amends. The Phefeni Boys remain 9th on the league standings and it’s a true reflection of their performances to date. Meanwhile the Pretoria side won their last game against Cape Town City and that should’ve refueled them with more confidence. They’re sitting in 2nd position looking to put pressure on top of the table.
I expect SuperSport United to come out victorious as they look way stronger than Chiefs.
The match will be played on Saturday at FNB Stadium with Kick Off at 15:00
