DSTV PREMIERSHIP MATCH PREVIEW: SUPERSPORT UNITED VS CAPE TOWN CITY

Having finished the first round of the season, teams like Cape Town City and SuperSport United are hunting for points to contend for the title and a Champions League spot.

Both teams will be looking to bounce back as they lost their midweek games. Matsatsansa are one of the strongest contenders for the title and can’t even afford to draw their next match. While the Cape Town side won’t make it easy for United as they are also not that far from the log leaders and want to close that gap, it’s only a ten-point difference.

Citizens are like a roller coaster, they do well sometimes and lose it at some points. The problem with them this season is their inconsistency. However if you would compare the way they have played this season with previous campaigns, they have significantly improved.

Just like Cape Town City, SuperSport United haven’t been consistent. This past weekend they were knocked out of the Nedbank Cup by Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila. How can you lose to such a struggling team while you were able to draw with in-form Swallows FC and Mamelodi Sundowns in your recent games?

Cape Town City are the leading goal scorers in the league with 26 goals. Like anyone would expect, a team that’s scoring lot of goals must be at least in the top three but they can’t really defend as they have also conceded 23. SuperSport will have to make use of City’s inability to defend, considering their sharp striker Bradley Grobler.

Kaitano Tembo’s men are dangerous at set pieces relying on their tall strikers Grobler and Thamsanqa Gabuza. They sometimes struggle when playing against a team that possesses the ball. Cape Town City like to play a passing game building from the back and they do possess the ball a lot. They have brilliant attacking midfielders in Mduduzi Mdantsane and Thabo Nodada who link well with their forwards. City can exploit this weakness of United.

The Pretoria side has a solid defense in Luke Fleurs and Thatayaone Ditlokwe, but will they be able to stop in-form Tashreeq Morris who has scored 3 goals in his last 2 games for Citizens?

I foresee a share of the spoils as both teams want to rebound.

The match will be played on Saturday at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium with Kick Off at 17:00
