Saturday, 30 January promises to be a bumper sporting day for lovers of both the round and oval ball.
Such a pity then that fans won’t be able to watch both the Soweto derby and the Currie Cup final live.
The Currie Cup final between the Bulls and Sharks at Loftus Versfeld will be shown live on pay-channel SuperSport at 15:00.
Thirty minutes later the Soweto derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs from the Orlando Stadium will be screened live on both the SABC and SuperSport (at 15:30).
With no spectators permitted at either venue, fans will have to rely on their home TV to catch the action – and a PVR in order to watch both.
The fault for the clash in kick-off times on this occasion lies squarely with SA Rugby.
The PSL had scheduled the Soweto derby for 15:30 for several months already, while SA Rugby has chopped and changed match days let alone match times since the Currie Cup kicked off.
The PSL schedule is jam-packed. The SA Rugby schedule, well, what’s the rush?!
So where will South Africa’s loyalties lie?
Official TV numbers won’t be made public, but our best guess is that the Soweto derby will win hands-down (on SABC).
