DSTV PREMIERSHIP BIG MATCH PREVIEW: ORLANDO PIRATES VS KAIZER CHIEFS

PSL analyst Sinethemba breaks down what to look out for in the big clash on Saturday

All eyes will be on South Africa’s two most glamorous clubs, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates when they meet for the first time in this year.

Fans were fortunate to watch two MTN 8 semifinal Soweto derbies played early this season (over two legs) where Pirates came out victorious in both matches. The last league match between these teams was won by Kaizer Chiefs in February last year.

The Phefeni boys started to show some positive changes in the way they played recent games. They’ve shown hunger, eagerness to win and they play offensive football in a collective way. The return of Samir Nurkovic has also helped them as he scored a goal in his first game and has two assists so far this season. He has added fighting spirit among the players and that’s probably the reason why he has been given the captain’s armband in the absence of regular captain Itumeleng Khune.

The young Nkosingiphile Ngcobo of Kaizer Chiefs will be a player to look out for as he’s a playmaker for them. His technical ability makes him look like an experienced player. He has scored three goals in 12 appearances and bear in mind he’s only a 21-year-old midfielder, not a striker.

Buccaneers’ Deon Hotto seems to be flourishing and is another player to look out for. He’s a quick winger who can unleash dangerous crosses into the box and has two goals and two assists in 13 games so far this season.

Gavin Hunt’s men have won three, drawn two of their last five games while Pirates have won two, drawn two and lost one over the same period. Amakhosi are sitting in 7th position with 18 points while Buccaneers are in 5th position with 22 points. Both teams will be fighting for maximum points as they look to climb up the table.

Ramahlwe Mphahlele is doubtful for the game after he suffered a hamstring injury in their second last match. Meanwhile Orlando Pirates might play without Gabadinho Mhango and Paseka Mako who were also unavailable in the last match courtesy of injuries. Innocent Maela will be out of action because of injury while Terrence Dzukamanja is set to undergo a late fitness test.

I foresee share of the spoils as both teams badly want to win the game.

The match will be played on Saturday at Orlando Stadium with Kick Off at 15:30
