Two teams that are yet to be beaten in the league lock horns on Saturday. Mamelodi Sundowns is on top of DSTV Premiership table with 26 points while Swallows FC sits in 2nd position with same number of points.
Sundowns have drawn two games in a row and that has left their fans worried. There are some concerns about changes they’ve seen in their team with management suddenly sidelining players who were doing well when the season began. They have sacrificed Andile Jali for Mothobi Mvala who’s still struggling to fit into their style of playing, they’ve recently picked Aubrey Modiba over Kermit Erasmus and Hlompo Kekana is no longer getting game time.
True, Downs have a big squad and it’s not easy to manage it. but almost every game we see a new face in their starting line up or on the bench. Manqoba Mnqithi and Rhulani Mokwena must understand that not everyone in the squad will get a chance to play and players have to fight for their place in the side. Management should pick their best team and stick with it.
On the other hand, Swallows have a settled starting line up. The team – especially the midfield – has a good understanding of each other and how they play. They have a very solid defense with the likes of Wandisile Letlabika and Njabulo Ngcobo making it hard for teams to score against them.
In-form Ruzaigh Gamildien is the league’s second leading goal scorer with nine goals after 12 games. In the midweek, he was presented as player of the month alongside his mentor Brandon Truter as coach of the month. That will surely boost the whole team’s confidence even more.
If I was Coach Truter, I would stay with the same starting line up and perhaps make two or three changes in the second half in order to keep the team’s consistency. While if I was Downs’ mentor I would sacrifice Mvala for Kekana to retain the midfield stability, take out Maboe and add offensive players like Lesedi Kapinga or Domingo.
My money is on Sundowns to win the game because they’ll come with immense aggression in this match after failing to get a win in their past two games. Remember they are a top-quality side.
The match will be played on Saturday at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium with Kick Off at 15:00.
Sinethemba Sithole’s prediction: Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 Swallows FC
