CONOR MCGREGOR NAMES TOUGHEST OPPONENT; COMMITS TO UFC THROUGH 2021

Dana White says Lightweight title not vacant, thinks Khabib will unretire

Forty-eight hours can be an eternity in the fast-moving world that is the UFC.

In that time, UFC boss Dana White has controversially claimed that he thinks retired UFC Lightweight champ and No.1 Pound-for-Pound fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov will reconsider his decision to call it quits at the top of his game. As such he has declared that the Lightweight title is not vacant as many of us had assumed.

The implications of this?

Firstly, it means that Conor McGregor’s scheduled Jan 23, 2021 fight with Dustin Poirier will not be a title fight – news that neither fighter will be too thrilled to hear. For the record, White confirmed that the fight is signed and sealed at the UFC Las Vegas 12 post-event press conference, saying “It’s a done deal!”

Secondly, it suggests that Khabib has hinted to White that he has one more fight in him, despite his ceremonious retirement just last week after his win over Justin Gaethje – leaving his gloves in the centre of the ring … and all. White revealed that Khabib had told him that “he would speak to his mother,” presumably about that one extra fight.

NO FAIRYTALE UFC ENDING FOR BRAZIL LEGEND ANDERSON SILVA

Also within the past 48 hours …

Conor McGregor has turned somewhat humble. Not only was he full of praise for his fellow fighters but also confirmed that he would be “committing” to the UFC Lightweight division for the duration of 2021 and that he was ready to take on anyone. He also claimed to be in a great mental space – bear in mind that on Twitter, Conor can be as loose as Donald Trump on meds.

In a Twitter Q&A with fans, Conor named his toughest opponent … NATE DIAZ.

He also said he would consider another fight with Max Holloway and named Tony Ferguson as the most underrated fighter in the UFC.

And we all thought that the story of the weekend was Anderson Silva’s retirement and White’s seemingly harsh words surrounding his future or lack thereof!
