Israel Folau, under the high ball, had the most impeccable judgement – arguably the best the world has seen. But when it comes to expressing his opinion and practicing what he preaches, his judgement is possibly one of the worst.
Folau continues to push his case for unfair dismissal and is now asking for A$14mln from the Australian Rugby Union – claiming that this is how much he would have made as captain of the team.
Well … I can tell you for free, Izzy, that there is no way in hell (sorry!) that you would have been made captain of anything with your questionable ethics. Even just the assumption from you that you would have been captain shows a lack of respect for your former teammates – the very respect that forms the basis of being a good captain. You think that you would make a better captain than one of the best captains out there in Michael Hooper? Don’t think so. Hooper carries himself with dignity and leads by example – even though the team he leads is not very good.
Aside from making ridiculous and outlandish claims from the ARU, Folau continues to push bizarre and deeply insensitive comments out to the public. His latest – suggesting the wild bushfires and drought ravaging Australia were “God’s judgement” for the country’s laws on same-sex marriage and abortion.
“God’s word says for a man and a woman to be together, one man and one woman in the covenant of marriage … Look how rapid these bushfires, these droughts, all these things have come in a short period of time. Do you think it’s a coincidence or not?
“God is speaking to you guys. Australia you need to repent and take these laws and turn it back to what is right by God.”
DUDE … GET A GRIP!
I am not taking a view here on anyone’s right to practicing religion or expressing their religious views. But there is a way to do it that is not offensive or insensitive. Many of the religious Springbok players, among others, show how to conduct their prayers in private and with humility.
Many lives were lost in those wildfires – imagine if you had lost a child, close friend or relative in one of those fires? To suggest that that is punishment for (his view on) government laws is ridiculous.
His previews comments that got him into hot water (sorry again!) were of a similar ilk. Posted on his instagram account was the following tirade: “drunks, homosexuals, adulterers, liars, fornicators, thieves, atheists and idolaters,” reading underneath, “Hell awaits you.”
Firstly, it has been reported that he has been seen drunk in public on a number of occasions. It also seems that he is guilty of idolating – as he clearly has a deep affection for himself. It was equally as disturbing that he – as a very wealthy man – sought crowd-funding (from the man on the street) to pay for his claim of … 14 million large!
There may also be a case for calling him a “thief” for his massively inflated compensation claim … which in this writer’s opinion amounts to daylight robbery!
